A major part of any Vampire the Masquerade Game is inside every Kindred there is a Beast. And how each Kindred manages their Beast is integral to their character. To paraphrase Raphael (the devil you know from Baldur’s Gate 3) Is the beast your friend? Potentially. An adversary? Conceivably. But a savior? That is for certain.
But regardless, you are stuck with your Beast. And to quote him again, “what’s better than a devil you don’t know? A devil you do.”
So what kind of a beast would a Malkavian have? Obviously it would need to be a voice in the head-Malkavians are the clan of insanity and madness afterall. But how do I distinguish the voice of Cassandra's beast from that of a Tremere’s or even a Toreador’s?
Make them work together.
Make them such an unusual pair that other Kindred don’t quite know where one ends and the other begins.
Make the beast be the bestie with bad ideas and all the earworms that bother you at 2am. The tab playing music in the list of 47 open ones.
The drunken thoughts or high ideas.
The one who can both get you to act on the impulses and provide council or guidance.
The slightly toxic best friend that you always forgive because they have your best interests at heart. Afterall, if something terrible were to happen to the kindred, that means the beast suffers. Meaning she-the beast-has a vested interest in keeping Cassandra who’s still fumbling her way into learning how to be a Kindred alive.
So to speak of course.
So I gave her a name. Like Cassandra, I gave her the name of a seer.
The creation of the beast was taking a look inside myself-the good and the bad and acknowledge it. She may be annoying, inconvenient, unhinged, and did I mention annoying? Sybil is my beast self.
And I wouldn't change that for the world.
P.S. I will warn you now dear reader, much like Bryan and his mentions of One Piece (which is a fantastic show- we’re working our way through it as well) you will undoubtedly see many references to things like Baldur’s Gate 3 from me. Just be prepared. :)
