About the author…

Bryan Scharf was born a Long Island native and lived there for most of his life. Following a career in teaching he’s moved all over the East Coast of the US living in Virginia, South Carolina, and is now settled in North Carolina. Growing up he was an avid reader, devouring books like K.A. Applegate’s Animorphs, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman’s Dragonlance novels, and would often be seen in high school with a paperback copy of one Dresden Files novel by Jim Butcher or another sticking out of his back pocket. He began writing his own novels starting in senior year, inspired by his creative writing and mythology teacher.

As an adult, he found getting both the quiet time to read sci-fi and fantasy and social time with is friends begin to drift away. That’s when he was introduced to the wonderful world of TTRPGs (or tabletop role playing games for the uninitiated). These games gave him a creative outlet and an opportunity to share stories with friends, building worlds and memories together. It was also what sparked the inspiration for the Displaced book series.

Bringing the worlds he and his friends created together to the worlds he was penning just made perfect sense! With both the permission and help of his friends, he set off on his most ambitious project ever: the novelization of a wholly original campaign, written and created by him, played by his friends, then written again in novel form. It all began in January of 2019, and it is still ongoing…

Meet the Heroes

A story is only as good as its characters. Here are the five that started it all, each a wildcard in my story as I am not the author of their actions; I’m merely filing the incident report. As the story progresses, I’ll add in some relevant NPCs, but for now let’s focus on the stars of the show!

Drawing of a young man with dark curly hair, light skin, and a beard, wearing a blue Nike shirt and black jacket, against a gray background.
  • Holy Knight of Nike

The more stoic member of the group, Luis has a strong sense of morality, duty, and devotion, but don’t think this makes him a typical “stick-in-the-mud” paladin. Luis doesn’t see the point in dancing around an issue, he’ll charge in with reckless abandon just as soon as use diplomacy. Victory always comes at a cost, and he’s ready, willing, and able to pay it.

  • Timm… just call him Timm.

Battle scarred and made of whipchord, Timm is a fearsome fighter with a thick brogue who’s right hook is rivaled only by his poor impulse control. He has a heart of gold and the loyalty of a hunting hound… One might say he’s like a golden retriever.

  • The odd (and old) man out.

Smithers, as he prefers to be called, is unique as he’s the only member of the team actually from this world. This makes him skeptical of the crazy claims these world hopping whippersnappers make. Despite the wild adventures in front of him, he keeps an equalizer on hand: Sebastian the Sawed Off Shotgun.

  • Nature’s Wrath… but with anxiety

Morgan carries within her the strength of wild beasts and raw elemental power all held in check by her worry that she may hurt someone’s feelings. Granted, those worries fly out the window as soon as the people she cares about are in trouble. Then watch out! She’ll go for the throat.

  • The Anvil of Goibniu

If you think that god’s name is hard to pronounce… you’re correct! Lee is not as direct as Luis, but he’s no less devoted, he just takes a more level approach, seeking first to understand and building a foundation under his feet before stepping out on the ledge… which often leaves him frustrated considering the “leap-before-you-look” attitude of some of the team.
